How to care for your carbon bike?

2025-03-21

Now more and more cycling enthusiasts prefer to choose carbon fiber bicycles, and some of their carbon fiber bicycles are quite expensive. But still many riders know less about the carbon bikes maintenance. As a carbon bike rims manufacturer,we can give some advice on how you can make sure your carbon fiber bike is in top shape.

Use A Torque Wrench

we recommend you always use a torque wrench when adjusting any component that clamps to carbon fiber.A torque wrench is generally in the form of a socket wrench and has a special mechanism to measure force applied to a nut or bolt. Multi-tools held simply in hand can over tighten the bolt and crush the carbon fiber layers, losing all structural strength of the tube. Each carbon fiber component including stem, seat post and handlebar has a recommended torque value that the manufacturer has set and needs to be followed.Just to be on the safe side we recommend checking each bolt with a torque wrench before a big cycling or epic adventure.

Use Carbon Paste

if you have a carbon fiber bike, carbon seat post, carbon fiber stem, or carbon fiber handlebars, better to use carbon paste which has a gritty texture that can keep components from slipping. We recommend you reapply new paste every time you remove and replace your components.

Crash And Wear Inspections

Some key places to check are any place where a component or accessory is in contact with the frame, and in areas close to your tires. If you crash your carbon bike, you have to check out the damage carefully, remembering that some damages may not be visible to the untrained eye.So you should take your bike to the bike shops to be inspected. And, do not ride until you're sure the bike/component is safe.Even if you never crash, you should frequently inspect your carbon bicycle and components for any gouges, deep scratches, cracks, loose fibers or other surface cracks and stop riding until you fix the problems.

Clean And Inspect Carbon Wheels

Proper cleaning and inspection are the foundations of effective carbon wheel maintenance. Here's a step-by-step guide to keeping your wheels in top shape. Take your wheels off the bike to clean them more thoroughly. This step also allows you to inspect the rims for any damages, such as cracks or excessive wear.Start by rinsing your wheels with clean water to remove loose dirt and grime. With a soft brush, scrub the rims and spokes gently. Dry them thoroughly with clean towels.Ensure there's no water left on the rims or in the spokes. When you clean your carbon wheels, you can use  this  good opportunity to inspect them closely. If you notice any issues,it's essential to address them promptly to avoid further damage.

Frames And Forks

never try to stretch or compress the frame to change the spacing. It's set to accept modern wheels perfectly and will only flex by about 2mm.  By forcing it you can structurally damage the frame or dropouts. When cutting a new fork to size, we recommend using a carbon-specific hacksaw blade. These blades essentially "sand" through the carbon instead of tearing through with teeth, which tend to fray and splinter the fibers in the composite.Keep in mind that the fork, headset, insert, spacers and stem act as a system so you need to consider all these things when sizing and installing a fork to get it right.Crashed or damaged frames and forks such as cracks, chips, loose fibers or fatigue marks, or those that you even suspect were damaged, should be taken out of use immediately and inspected by the qualified expert to ensure they're still safe. If evidence of damage is found, the components should be replaced or repaired.

Tire And Tube Maintenance

Mounting and maintaining tires and tubes is crucial for a safe ride.Proper tire and tube maintenance is essential for a safe and enjoyable ride. Select tires that match the intended use of your wheels. Before mounting tires, carefully inspect the rim's interior to ensure it's free from debris or sharp objects that could puncture the tube.Periodically inspect your tires for wear, cuts, or embedded debris.Ensure they are properly inflated according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Discover how to choose the right ones and maintain them for optimal braking.
